About Us

Maldives got WOSM membership on 23rd July 1990 at the Paris World Scout Conference. Associated to this important date, the scoutsofmaldives.com was initially launched on 23rd July in the year 2004.

The basic idea was to share the Scout notes and information with other Scouts and Leaders. During then internet wasn’t so widely used as today and we didn’t have any Scout related website other than the Scout Association website that could be readily available in Maldives.

The site was a real hit, especially with the Scouts and Leaders in the Island who didn’t have much Scout material to start with. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Hassan Shifan (old Scout from EPSS) who helped me with the initial setup and also Mr. Ahmed Imad Mohamed for providing me all the necessary materials to make the notes etc.

I was doing all these by myself and as years passed by I got too occupied with other works and I was unable to update the site regularly. Finally I took it down, hoping to upgrade the entire site and its contents but somehow it took more time than I thought.

During the upgrading process some ‘Scouts’ wanted to help in different aspects and a ‘Team’ was formed. A Flickr Group and a Facebook Group was created with the same name. And now we are on Twitter too.

Now, the Scouts of Maldives .com TEAM includes mostly Rovers/ Young Adults. The Team consists of President Scouts, Rover Scouts and Wood Badge holders. Some of them presently abroad, doing further studies but all connected for a common goal.

Our aims and objectives are to create a network of Scouts, to share, to promote Scouting and to provide the latest information and news in the Scouting community in the Maldives and elsewhere. Our goal is to achieve this mainly through our Groups on Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and as well as through this site.

We hope that you will use the site well and obtain knowledge and information that would help you in your Scouting career. We would like each one of you to participate in the discussions and to comment to the articles etc. The last but no least, feel free to share what you do, your thoughts n ideas.

Hi Guys, I am a Scout Leader in the UK and we are planning an Expedition to the Maldives in January 2013. We are looking for a project that we can achieve with around 20 scouts in 6 or 7 days. Is there a way I can get in touch with Scout groups for ideas?
